Planning Workshop and Design Charrette
February 7, 8, and 9, 2008

All interested citizens are invited to take part in a dynamic, joint planning workshop and design charrette at St Paul's Lutheran Church at 2256 Bahia Vista. The three-day, interactive charrette, will be facilitated by EDAW, Inc., a worldwide urban planning and design firm. The purpose of the charrette is to re-initiate dialogue for visualizing a shared plan and designing public consensus for redevelopment of the old warehouses located on approximately 9.5-acres along South School Avenue east of Payne Park.

The opening session will take place on Thursday evening, February 7 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The workshop continues on Friday, February 8 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and concludes with the Saturday, February 9 sessions from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m and 12:30 p.m to 1:30 p.m. All sessions will take place at St Paul's Lutheran Church.

The charrette will be lead by Barbara Faga, one of the world's foremost charrette facilitators, and an urban designer, author, and speaker with over 30 years of experience spearheading urban projects. Her firm, EDAW, Inc., has been involved locally in projects for the City of Sarasota, Sarasota County, and is presently involved in the design for the new Children's Garden at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Ms. Faga will be assisted by Anne Rollings, a native of Sarasota, and a graduate of Riverview High School and the University of Florida; Cesar Garcia-Pons, an urban designer with more than seventeen years of urban redevelopment experience, and Jay Gillespie, a landscape architect and urban designer.
